Description
MONSTER STOMPER is a single-player arcade action game released in 1995 by Natsume for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The player controls a giant, bipedal monster tasked with destroying a series of urban environments across multiple levels. The objective is to reduce all buildings, vehicles, and military units to rubble within a time limit while managing a health bar and a special attack meter. The game employs a top-down perspective with a scrolling playfield. Each level concludes with a boss encounter against a humanoid mecha or aerial craft. The monster’s design is inspired by classic Japanese kaiju films.
Instructions
Gameplay is divided into two phases: destruction and combat. The player moves the monster using the D-pad. The A button performs a standard stomp attack, effective against buildings and small ground units. The B button executes a punch, which is faster but deals less damage to structures. The X button activates a special attack, such as a fire breath or energy beam, consuming a portion of the special meter. The Y button triggers a grab action, allowing the monster to pick up vehicles or debris and throw them with the A button. The L and R buttons rotate the camera view 90 degrees left or right, aiding navigation.
Tactical techniques include prioritizing military bases and missile launchers, as they inflict the most damage. The player should conserve the special meter for boss encounters, where the monster must dodge projectile patterns by moving diagonally. Stomping repeatedly on a single building collapses it faster than punching. Grabbing and throwing helicopters or tanks can clear clusters of enemies efficiently. Health recovery items appear after destroying certain large structures. The time limit is extended by destroying a clock icon, which appears randomly after every third building destroyed.
