Description
Wolfoos Kindergarten is a single-player, narrative-driven simulation game developed by independent studio Hollow Paws and released in 2023. The game is set in a surreal educational institution where the player assumes the role of a newly assigned caretaker responsible for a classroom of anthropomorphic wolf cubs. The primary objective is to manage the cubs’ emotional states, physical needs, and social behaviors over a series of in-game days. The environment is rendered in a muted, hand-drawn art style, and the narrative unfolds through scripted events and character interactions. The game does not feature a traditional win condition; instead, it concludes after a fixed number of days, with the ending determined by the cumulative state of the classroom. The core themes involve responsibility, empathy, and the consequences of neglect.
Instructions
Gameplay mechanics are divided into three primary phases: preparation, activity, and rest. During preparation, the player reviews a daily schedule and allocates resources such as food, toys, and bedding. The activity phase requires the player to interact directly with individual cubs to address their specific needs, which are indicated by visual cues such as posture, ear position, and vocalizations. The rest phase involves cleaning the classroom and repairing damaged objects. The game operates on a real-time clock, with each in-game day lasting approximately fifteen minutes of real time.
Operation controls are keyboard and mouse based. The mouse is used to click on objects and cubs to initiate interactions. The left mouse button selects a cub or item, while the right mouse button cancels an action. The keyboard keys W, A, S, D control the caretaker’s movement across the classroom. The spacebar performs a generic interaction, such as picking up a dropped toy or opening a cabinet. The number keys 1 through 4 correspond to quick-select actions: 1 for feeding, 2 for comforting, 3 for play, and 4 for discipline. The escape key pauses the game and opens the menu.
Tactical techniques focus on prioritization and pattern recognition. A cub displaying flattened ears and a lowered tail requires immediate comforting, as this indicates high distress. Feeding should be performed before play, as hunger increases aggression. Discipline actions, such as a verbal reprimand, are only effective when a cub is actively misbehaving, such as throwing objects; using discipline on a calm cub increases fear. The player should repair broken furniture during the rest phase before cleaning, as debris from repairs can be swept up simultaneously. Maintaining a consistent schedule reduces the frequency of negative events, such as fights between cubs. The game does not allow saving during a day; progress is saved only at the start of each new day.
