Description

Tanks for the Nation is a single-player and cooperative multiplayer tank simulation game developed by Digital Steelworks and released in 2023. The game is set in an alternate historical timeline where armored warfare dominates global conflicts. Players assume the role of a tank commander operating a variety of mid-20th-century armored vehicles across procedurally generated battlefields. The primary objective is to complete mission objectives such as destroying enemy armor, capturing supply depots, or escorting convoys. The game emphasizes realistic ballistics, armor penetration mechanics, and crew management. It features a dynamic damage system where individual components like tracks, turret rings, and ammunition racks can be disabled. The visual style employs a muted color palette with detailed vehicle interiors and environmental destruction.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics are divided into three phases: navigation, engagement, and repair. The player controls a tank using a keyboard and mouse. The W, A, S, and D keys control forward, reverse, and lateral hull movement. The mouse controls turret rotation and gun elevation. Left-click fires the main gun; right-click activates the coaxial machine gun. The spacebar engages the handbrake for stationary firing stability. The number keys 1 through 4 select ammunition types: armor-piercing, high-explosive, high-explosive anti-tank, and smoke. The R key initiates a reload, which is time-dependent on crew skill. The F key orders the driver to move to a designated point on the minimap. The Q and E keys toggle periscope and commander’s hatch views. Tactical techniques include hull-down positioning, where only the turret is exposed over terrain. Angling the hull at 45 degrees to incoming fire increases effective armor thickness. Using smoke rounds to obscure line of sight before retreating is a standard defensive maneuver. Coordinating with teammates to flank an enemy tank while one player draws fire is a common cooperative tactic.
