Description

Squad Tower is a real-time strategy tower defense game developed by a small independent studio, released in 2023 for PC and mobile platforms. The game combines traditional tower defense mechanics with squad-based unit management. Players control a central base structure and deploy squads of customizable units to defend against waves of enemy forces. The game features a top-down perspective with a fixed camera angle. Each match takes place on a grid-based map with predetermined paths that enemy units follow toward the player’s base. The objective is to survive a set number of waves or eliminate a final boss enemy. Resources are earned by defeating enemies and are used to purchase new units, upgrade existing squads, and construct defensive towers. The game includes a single-player campaign with 20 levels and a multiplayer mode where two players compete or cooperate. Squad Tower emphasizes tactical positioning and resource management over fast reflexes.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics in Squad Tower revolve around three core systems: squad deployment, tower construction, and resource collection. Players begin each level with a fixed amount of currency. Currency is generated passively over time and increased by defeating enemies. Squads consist of up to five units, each with distinct roles such as melee fighter, ranged attacker, healer, or engineer. Units are placed on designated deployment zones on the map. Towers are built on pre-set plots and provide static firepower or support effects. Controls differ by platform. On PC, the mouse is used to select units and towers by left-clicking. Right-clicking issues movement orders to selected squads. The keyboard number keys 1 through 5 select individual squad members. The spacebar pauses the game for planning. On mobile, touch controls are used: tapping a unit selects it, dragging a path orders movement, and tapping a tower plot opens the build menu. A pause button is located in the top-right corner.

Tactical techniques include positioning melee units at chokepoints to block enemy advance while ranged units attack from elevated positions. Engineers should be placed near towers to repair damage during waves. Resource management is critical; players should prioritize upgrading one squad fully before expanding to a second. Against fast-moving enemy types, deploying area-of-effect towers such as flame turrets is effective. Against armored enemies, piercing towers or squad units with armor-penetrating abilities are required. In multiplayer, coordinating squad movements with a partner to cover multiple lanes prevents base breaches. A common advanced technique is the “kite” maneuver, where a ranged squad is ordered to retreat while firing, drawing enemies into overlapping tower fire zones.
