Description

SparrowElimination is a single-player, top-down arcade simulation game developed by Voxel Logic Studios and released in 2023. The game places the player in the role of a municipal pest control officer tasked with reducing an overpopulated urban sparrow population. The primary objective is to eliminate a specified number of sparrows within a timed session across various city environments, including parks, plazas, and industrial zones. The game employs a realistic physics engine for projectile trajectory and bird flocking behavior. Sparrows are programmed with distinct AI patterns, including evasive maneuvers, flock cohesion, and alarm calls that alert nearby birds. The player’s score is calculated based on accuracy, speed, and the use of environmental hazards. Penalties are applied for collateral damage to non-target species or property. The game features a progressive difficulty system, with later levels introducing wind vectors, moving platforms, and limited ammunition.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics are centered on a point-and-shoot system. The player controls a crosshair using the mouse. Left-clicking fires a projectile from the player’s current position. The projectile travels in a straight line with a fixed velocity and is subject to gravity. The player must lead moving targets, accounting for distance and sparrow speed. A right-click activates a zoom function, reducing the field of view and slowing the crosshair movement for precision shots. The keyboard controls movement of the player character: W, A, S, and D keys move the character forward, left, backward, and right, respectively. The spacebar triggers a short dash that consumes stamina, represented by a bar on the HUD. The R key reloads the weapon, which has a magazine capacity of six shots. The Q key cycles through available ammunition types: standard pellets, which are fast but low damage; sonic bursts, which stun a small area; and net rounds, which capture a single sparrow without killing it, awarding bonus points.

Tactical techniques involve manipulating sparrow flock behavior. Firing a sonic burst into a dense flock causes disorientation, making individual sparrows easier to target with standard pellets. Net rounds are best used on isolated birds near the edge of a map to avoid alerting the flock. The player should use the dash ability to reposition behind cover or to intercept a fleeing bird. Environmental hazards, such as open manholes or active ventilation fans, can be used to eliminate sparrows indirectly; luring a bird into a hazard with a sonic burst counts as a kill. Ammunition conservation is critical; the player should prioritize high-value targets, such as the alpha sparrow, which is larger and has a distinct call. Killing the alpha sparrow causes the remaining flock to scatter, reducing the effective target density. The zoom function is most effective when used from a stationary position behind cover, as movement cancels the zoom.
