Description
Sodacat is a 2023 single-player puzzle-platformer developed by indie studio Fizzbyte. The game follows a anthropomorphic cat named Soda who navigates a series of laboratory environments to rescue fellow test subjects. The core mechanic involves manipulating a carbonated beverage that the character consumes, which alters gravity and allows for vertical movement. The game features a pixel-art aesthetic with a pastel color palette and a chiptune soundtrack. Levels are divided into three zones, each introducing new environmental hazards such as acid pools and laser grids. The narrative is conveyed through environmental storytelling and brief text logs.
Instructions
Gameplay is divided into exploration and puzzle-solving. The player controls Soda using the keyboard or controller. Movement is handled with the WASD keys or left analog stick. The spacebar or A button performs a jump. The primary action, "Fizz Burst," is activated by pressing the E key or X button. This causes Soda to release carbonation, temporarily reducing gravity for 3 seconds, allowing the character to float and reach higher platforms. The Fizz Burst has a cooldown of 5 seconds, indicated by a gauge on the HUD. Collecting soda cans scattered in levels reduces the cooldown by 1 second each. Tactical techniques include chaining Fizz Bursts with wall jumps (press W or up on the D-pad while adjacent to a wall) to ascend vertical shafts. Players can also use the Fizz Burst to redirect falling objects, such as crates, by timing the burst beneath them. For precise navigation, holding the shift key or left trigger slows movement speed by 50%, enabling careful positioning over narrow ledges. The game saves automatically at checkpoints marked by glowing terminals.
