Description
Nibblix is a single-player, grid-based puzzle game released in 2023 by independent developer Stray Vector Studios. The game presents a series of two-dimensional, square-grid arenas populated by a central player entity, the Nibblix, and a variable number of stationary, colored food pellets. The objective of each level is to consume all pellets within a limited number of moves. The Nibblix moves in a continuous, straight line until it collides with a wall or an obstacle, at which point it stops. The player must plan a path that visits every pellet without retracing steps or wasting moves. The game features a minimalist visual style with a monochrome grid and a single accent color for the Nibblix and pellets. Levels increase in complexity by introducing immovable blocks, teleportation tiles, and pellets that require multiple passes to consume. A move counter and a step counter are displayed at the top of the screen, tracking the player’s efficiency against a par score for each level.
Instructions
Gameplay mechanics are governed by a single rule: the Nibblix moves in a straight line in the direction of the last input until it hits a wall or block. The player cannot stop the Nibblix mid-motion. Each collision counts as one move. The game ends when all pellets are consumed or when the move counter reaches zero. Operation controls are limited to four directional inputs. On a keyboard, the W, A, S, and D keys correspond to up, left, down, and right. On a controller, the left analog stick or D-pad provides the same directional commands. A single press of a direction sets the Nibblix on a new heading; holding the button does not affect movement speed or trajectory. The undo function is mapped to the Z key or the B button on a controller, allowing the player to revert the last move. The restart function is mapped to the R key or the Y button.
Tactical techniques focus on path efficiency and move conservation. The player must identify the shortest route that covers all pellets without creating isolated, unreachable sections. A common technique is the "corner hook," where the player approaches a wall at a shallow angle to force a stop adjacent to a pellet, minimizing wasted steps. Another technique is "loop avoidance," where the player ensures the path does not create a closed circuit that traps the Nibblix away from remaining pellets. Advanced players use "teleport chaining," aligning the Nibblix to enter a teleport tile at an angle that exits directly into a line of pellets. The par score for each level is typically one move less than the total number of walls the Nibblix must hit, requiring the player to combine multiple pellet collections into single straight-line passes.
