Description

DTA 6 is a turn-based tactical role-playing game developed by Studio Furi and released in 2023 for personal computers and eighth-generation consoles. The game is the sixth mainline entry in the Digital Tactical Arena series. It is set in a near-future cyberpunk metropolis where players command a squad of four operatives, known as a Cell, through procedurally generated combat encounters. The core narrative revolves around a conflict between corporate security forces and decentralized hacker collectives. DTA 6 distinguishes itself from its predecessors through a dynamic environment system where every tile on the grid-based battlefield can be altered by weapon fire, hacking, or environmental hazards. The game features a single-player campaign with a branching story and a separate asynchronous multiplayer mode where players submit their Cell’s tactical plan for others to solve.

Instructions

Gameplay in DTA 6 is divided into two distinct phases: Planning and Execution. During the Planning phase, the player views the battlefield from an isometric perspective and issues movement and action commands to each operative. Each operative possesses two action points per turn, which can be spent on moving, attacking, using items, or activating special abilities. Movement is grid-based, with each square costing one action point. The Execution phase resolves all player and enemy actions simultaneously based on a speed stat, creating a deterministic outcome. The primary objective in each encounter is to eliminate all hostile units or to reach a designated extraction point.

Operation controls are standardized across platforms. On a keyboard and mouse, the player selects an operative by left-clicking on its icon or model. Movement is plotted by right-clicking on a destination tile, with a path preview shown. Abilities and items are accessed via number keys 1 through 6. The spacebar confirms the end of the Planning phase. On a controller, the left analog stick moves a cursor, the A button selects, and the B button cancels. The right trigger cycles through operatives. The game provides a rewind function, allowing the player to undo the last three actions during the Planning phase only.

Tactical techniques in DTA 6 rely on environmental manipulation. Overwatch, a standard ability, allows an operative to fire on the first enemy that moves within a cone of vision. Hacking terminals, found on most maps, grant temporary control over turrets or security doors. A core technique is the use of "chain reactions": shooting a fuel barrel to ignite a gas leak, which then detonates a nearby explosive crate. Players are advised to position operatives behind full cover, which reduces incoming damage by 50 percent, and to avoid clustering units, as area-of-effect attacks from enemy grenades or sniper fire can eliminate multiple operatives in a single turn. The game rewards careful observation of enemy patrol patterns during the Planning phase to set up ambushes.
