Instructions

Gameplay in Aquava is turn-based and grid-aligned. Each chamber is divided into a square tile map. The player controls the drone by selecting an adjacent tile to move into, with each move consuming one turn. The core mechanic involves manipulating water levels and electrical currents. The drone can interact with three types of objects: valves, which raise or lower water in adjacent tiles; conduits, which reroute electrical flow when rotated; and pressure plates, which must be weighted down by the drone or by water-filled tiles to unlock doors. The player must plan a sequence of moves that simultaneously manages water depth and power distribution to open a path to the chamber’s exit node.

Operation controls are limited to mouse or touch input. Left-clicking or tapping a tile moves the drone to that location if it is adjacent and passable. Right-clicking or long-pressing an object activates its function, such as turning a valve or rotating a conduit. A turn counter is displayed in the upper-left corner, and the player can undo the last move by pressing the spacebar or a dedicated undo button. The game does not feature a real-time clock; all actions are resolved after the player confirms the turn.

Tactical techniques in Aquava focus on resource efficiency. The drone cannot traverse tiles filled with water above a certain depth, so the player must lower water levels before moving through flooded areas. However, water can be used to activate pressure plates from a distance, allowing the drone to remain on dry tiles. A common strategy is to create temporary water reservoirs by closing valves after filling a tile, trapping water to hold a pressure plate while the drone moves elsewhere. Electrical conduits must be aligned before water is introduced, as water conducts electricity and can short-circuit a path if the conduit is misaligned. The player should always check the turn limit for each chamber, as exceeding it causes a system lockdown and forces a restart.
