Description

Adventruse Hail Game is a single-player, turn-based strategy title developed by independent studio Hollow Circuit and released in 2023. The game is set in a procedurally generated arctic wasteland where the player commands a small expedition of three specialists. The primary objective is to navigate a series of hexagonal tiles representing frozen terrain, collect scattered research caches, and reach an extraction point before a persistent, escalating hailstorm destroys the party. The game features a resource management system centered on heat, stamina, and shelter integrity. Each turn, the hailstorm advances, reducing visibility and dealing damage to exposed units. The expedition loses if all members perish or if the storm overtakes the extraction point.

Instructions

Gameplay mechanics are governed by a strict action point system. Each specialist receives three action points per turn. Actions include moving one hex, scanning adjacent tiles for resources or hazards, constructing a temporary shelter, or using a consumable item. Movement costs vary by terrain; deep snow costs two points, while ice flats cost one. Shelters provide a one-turn safe zone that blocks storm damage but consume one fuel unit per use. Fuel is found in caches or salvaged from destroyed equipment. The hailstorm advances one ring inward from the map edge every three turns, dealing one damage to any unit not inside a shelter.

Operation controls are designed for keyboard and mouse. The player selects a specialist by left-clicking their portrait or model. Movement is executed by right-clicking a highlighted hex within range. The spacebar ends the current specialist’s turn. The number keys 1 through 4 activate equipped items or abilities, such as a flare (key 1) to reveal a 3-hex radius, or a thermal pack (key 2) to restore one heat point. The escape key opens the pause menu, which allows saving or quitting. The game does not support controller input.

Tactical techniques center on heat and shelter management. Specialists lose one heat point per turn outside a shelter; reaching zero heat causes immediate death. Players should prioritize constructing shelters in a staggered pattern, one hex apart, to create a chain of safe zones toward the extraction point. Scanning is critical before moving into unexplored hexes, as hidden crevasses instantly kill a unit. A common strategy is to assign one specialist as a dedicated scout, using flares to map the storm’s edge, while the other two focus on resource collection. Conserving fuel for the final three turns is essential, as the storm intensifies and deals two damage per turn outside a shelter during that phase.
